Talking with Conservative Legislators

Here is an example script for writing to a conservative representative. Note the appeal to preserve states rights.

If you are calling the legislator, adjust this so that you are sharing this information (your opinion) with the person you are speaking with.

This is (Your Name).
(1) I am your constituent and live in (your zip code)
(2) While I am not your constituent, I do not wish to be redirected to my representative as this is a state-wide concern.

I am calling the redistricting committee to voice my support for bills HJR 32, HJR 74, HJR 118, and HB 369, that would create an independent redistricting commission. I would like to request that the committee schedule a hearing for these bills. On March 10, 2017, a US District Court ruled that three Congressional Districts (Districts 23, 27, and 35) were unconstitutional and violated the Voting Rights Act. There is a chance now that Texas will have to gain pre-clearance of its districts once again. We, as Texans, have the chance to preserve our right to determine our own districts by creating an independent redistricting commission. I believe it is in Texas’ best interest to support these bills.

Thank you for your time,
