Calling Your Representative or Senator

For engaging with your elected representatives in the Legislature to talk about support for current legislation (proposed bills), we've provided a sample script.

  • Prerequisite:  You will need to know your representative and/or senator.  If you are uncertain, enter your address at the following link to identify your representative and/or senator – click here.

Here's a sample script with a Representative's office:

Hi, I'm [NAME] and I'm a constituent of [REPRESENTATIVE] from [ZIPCODE]. I'm calling because of current events.  On March 10, 2017, a federal appellate court ruled that some of our state's 36 congressional districts violate either the U.S. Constitution or the federal Voting Rights Act.  This is the time to fix this problem once and for all AND let Texas keep control of the redistricting process.
Does [REPRESENTATIVE] support HJR 32, HJR 118, HJR 74, and HB 369 to put control of redistricting into the hands of a bi-partisan commission?
[Wait for answer. If in favor, thank them and ask them to vote for the two bills. If opposed, ask why, then ask Rep to reconsider and vote in favor of the two bills.]
Please ask [REPRESENTATIVE] to vote in favor of HJR 32, HJR 118,  HJR 74, and HB 369.

Here's a sample script with a Senator's office:
